KEVIN ACKLIN CHALLENGES MAYOR RAVENSTAHL TO FOUR DEBATES
Independent candidate calls for a "vigorous discussion of the issues," including at least two "town hall open forums"
PITTSBURGH – The voters of Pittsburgh deserve an open airing and discussion of the issues, says Independent Mayoral candidate, Kevin Acklin. To that end, Acklin will challenge Mayor Luke Ravenstahl to a series of debates he believes will establish him as the best candidate to lead Pittsburgh to a complete recovery from the financial and political ills that have plagued the city for the past five years.
Acklin, a Squirrell Hill attorney and community activist, is calling for a minimum of four televised debates, one to be carried by each of the three major commercial stations and one by PBS station, WQED. The format for at least two of the debates, Acklin says, should be "interactive, Presidential-debate-style, town hall open forums," allowing for a livelier discussion and exchange of the issues important to Pittsburgh residents.
Such a format, Acklin says, will allow both candidates to interact directly with voters, and to tailor their debates to issues most relevant to city residents.
