KEVIN ACKLIN SUBMITS FINAL NOMINATING PETITIONS WITH MORE THAN 4,000 SIGNATURES; CEMENTS PLACE ON BALLOT; SERVES NOTICE THAT HIS CANDIDACY HAS DEEP, BROAD, CITY-WIDE SUPPORT
Independent Mayoral candidate's submissions include signatures from every city ward and zip code, 21 from Luke Ravenstahl's neighborhood
PITTSBURGH -- Kevin Acklin's campaign for Mayor of Pittsburgh took another strong step forward today when he formally filed his final group of nominating petitions with the Allegheny County Board of Elections, completing his canvassing effort with more than 4,000 signatures and cementing his place as the Independent on the ballot for the November 3rd general election.
The depth and breadth of the Acklin for Pittsburgh signature-gathering effort produced results far beyond most observers' expectations. The numbers are impressive by any measure, but all the more so when you consider Acklin and his team accumulated the signatures without the organization or the imprimatur of a major political party.
Highlights of Acklin's signature-gathering numbers include:
- Over 4,000 signatures, nearly four times the amount required by law;
- Signatures from every zip code in the city;
- Signatures from all 32 wards in the city;
- Signatures from 76 neighborhoods in the city;
- Registration of dozens of new city voters;
- 21 signatures from Luke Ravenstahl's own neighborhood.
"The people of Pittsburgh have shown that they want a choice in November," said Acklin, whose campaign will continue to maintain high visibility throughout the city while digging deeper into policy plans and proposals. "Our message is resonating all across the city, and we're building the kind of deep, broad, post-partisan support that comes when voters know someone will visit their neighborhoods, address their concerns, and always put Pittsburgh first."
