Acklin Pledges No New Taxes on Working Pittsburghers

PITTSBURGH - Kevin Acklin, the Independent candidate for Mayor of Pittsburgh, today pledged that he would levy no new taxes on working Pittsburghers.  The pledge comes just days after the release of Acklin's Bugdet Plan, which increases investments in police and neighborhoods while balancing the budget and calling for the repeal of the Ravenstahl Patient and Student Taxes.

"Pittsburghers already pay high taxes, and under my administration they will not see any tax increases," Acklin said, "We need to improve the neighborhood services our residents receive, and we need to make sure our government works as efficiently as possible."

Kevin Acklin's tax policies also set him apart from Luke Ravenstahl:

• Mr. Ravenstahl has proposed a Patient Tax, levying fees on sick hospital admittants. Kevin Acklin thinks this tax is immoral, and he opposes its implementation.

• Mr. Ravenstahl has proposed a Student Tax, levying fees on every college student who enrolls in classes in the City of Pittsburgh. Kevin Acklin thinks this is no way to roll out the welcome mat for Pittsburgh's most eligible future residents.

•
Mr. Ravesnstahl has proposed increasing the Occupation Tax from $52 to $144.  Kevin believes this will punish working people and make it more costly for residents to work in Pittsburgh.

•
Kevin Acklin believes our region's corporate non-profits should pay more.  If they won't contribute voluntarily, he'll go to Harrisburg for the right to do it unilaterally.

• Kevin will pursue tax fraud and make sure that those who should be paying, are.

When Kevin Acklin is Mayor, Pittsburghers will see their tax dollars hard at work in the neighborhoods and on the streets, and they won't be asked to pay any more for the services they deserve.
