KEVIN ACKLIN ANNOUNCES NEIGHBORHOOD INVESTMENT PLAN
Independent mayoral candidate pledges more resources for neighborhoods
PITTSBURGH – Kevin Acklin, the independent candidate for Mayor of Pittsburgh, announced his plans to invest in all of Pittsburgh’s eighty-eight neighborhoods at a press conference at his South Side Campaign Headquarters this morning. The Acklin Plan calls for more action to reform the Bureau of Building Inspection, the creation of a one-stop-shop for small business development in City government, and a proposed Main Street Project, under which every neighborhood in Pittsburgh would receive at least one community investment project in Acklin's first term as Mayor.
“I was born in South Oakland, and raised in Pittsburgh's South Hills neighborhoods, two close-knit and supportive communities,” Acklin said. “I can tell you, from own experience, that our strength as a city comes from our neighborhoods, and investing in them is the only way to grow Pittsburgh.”
The Acklin Plan calls for:
- A serious effort to restructure the Bureau of Building Inspection, and an annual infusion of $1 million from the URA to make sure BBI has the resources to do its job.
- The creation of a one-stop shop where prospective small business owners can do all of their business with the city government.
- The creation of the Main Street Project, an unprecedented 4-year commitment to bring at least one community development project to every neighborhood in Pittsburgh.
In addition to these initiatives, Kevin Acklin has previously announced other plans to help bring investment to the neighborhoods, including a commitment to put 200 more police officers on the beat in his first term, and a comprehensive plan to deal with the city's abandoned housing problem.
